"Do not underestimate the depths of faith and love middle school students are capable of. Jesus doesn't."
Lindsay Klinker, Edge Youth Director
Why Middle School
Youth Ministry?
Age Compression
The issues and pressures that used to be more prevalent among older teens are now common among middle school youth. They are in search of truth and guidance.
Changes
Middle school youth are going through so many changes. They are on the edge of childhood and the edge of being a teenager, hence the name of the program: Edge. These years are some of the most formative years of their lives. They are determining who they are and who they're going to be. Who better to ask than the One who created them? At Edge, it is our goal to walk with these youth, as Christ, as they figure out themselves and their lives.
HOLLYWOOD IS TEACHING
Hollywood is teaching our youth the values they want to teach. They are not afraid to talk to our youth about sex, drugs, relationships, pregnancy, abortion, same-sex marriage, etc. Edge Nights become another voice proclaiming the truth of the Catholic faith and making it relevant to the youth.
A Method that works
Using fun, community, discussion, Scripture, prayer, and the Sacraments, youth are led to encounter Jesus Christ as a real person who has a real impact in their lives. They are led to make connections between the Catholic faith and their life, and are empowered to live, share, and take ownership of their faith. Each night focuses on a different topic that 7th and 8th graders are thinking about, facing, or affects their lives and spirituality in a significant way. Each night is chosen intentionally with the youth's specific needs in mind.
